During my junior year of college, I was approached by one of my professors in the industry regarding a position with the Howard University Media Sales Institute. I gladly accepted, and worked diligently to coordinate the two-week program for recent college graduates nationwide. The institute was a success, and I returned to work with the Media Sales Institute my senior year.
After I graduated, I took it upon myself to enroll in the program and attend the daily educational seminars. I was even more impressed with the program while participating as a student than I had been as a coordinator, and learned the ins and outs of the media sales industry before stepping foot into the workforce. I believe this programmed prepared me for my career and gave me an advantage over other college graduates looking to enter the field of media sales.
The NABEF program has had a major impact on my professional life. Being able to call so many professionals in the industry a mentor has strengthened my network both locally and nationally. From Account Executives to General Sales Manager to Executive Vice Presidents and CEO's, everyone was willing to lend a helping hand when in need, and continue to be a resource. What I liked most about the program is the opportunity it provided me to excel in my quest for a job after college and the network of both students and professionals who continue to reach out to each other when needed.
The Media Sales Institute is an intensive 10-day "boot camp" where students are immersed in learning electronic media advertising sales and sales techniques. The curriculum is designed to provide an entree into media sales for talented students of diverse backgrounds.
