Freedom of Speech Public Service Announcement Contest Rules and Regulations
- This is a call for entries for public service announcements for radio and television. The PSAs will be 30 seconds in length and will respond to the question, "what freedom of speech means to me," or will otherwise highlight the importance of free speech. The closing line of your PSA must include these exact words:
"This message is brought to you by the NAB Education Foundation, the Broadcast Education Association, McCormick Foundation and this station." - The competition is open to all part-time or full time graduate and undergraduate students who maintained significant control over the content and aesthetics of the PSA (producing, directing, writing, editing etc.). Entrants must be a student at a university or college or community/technical college.
- Applicants must complete one entry form for each entry submitted.
- Applicants must submit TWO (2) CDs for each radio entry and TWO (2) DVDs for each television entry. No cassette tapes or other formats will be accepted.
- Projects that are un-comprehensible or inappropriate for any reason in the sole judgment of NABEF or BEA will not be accepted into the competition. The decision of the judges is final.
- Entries submitted WILL NOT be returned. The NABEF and BEA, its management or its juries cannot assume liability for damage or loss. All submitted materials must be high quality copies. DO NOT send originals, masters, or anything considered one-of-a-kind.
- If an entity other than the applicant owns the rights to all or part of the submitted program, the applicant must attach written consent/permission from the owner or an authorized representative of the owner to the application. Applicants will be fully liable under the law for any copyright or other intellectual property violations.
- Entries must be received by April 30, 2010 to be eligible for this contest.
- Winning entries will be made available to radio and television stations for airing at their discretion. Winning entries will receive the following scholarship prizes:
Radio 1st Place $3,000 Television 1st Place $3,000 Radio 2nd Place $2,000 Television 2nd Place $2,000 Radio 3rd Place $1,000 Television 3rd Place $1,000 - Scholarship prizes will only be made payable to the university, college or community/technical college where the student is enrolled and will be applied to the student(s) account. If the scholarship money is to be shared by two or more students (i.e., a student team who maintained significant control over the creation and production of the PSA), it is the responsibility of the faculty sponsor to submit the names of the student winners to NABEF. Winning students not continuing their education at a university, college or community/technical college will not receive the scholarship prize.
NABEF and BEA reserve the right to amend the above rules at any time.
This competition is presented by the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) and the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and sponsored by the McCormick Foundation.
