Call to Service Collegiate Competition - Official Rules and Eligibility
- Student(s) must be enrolled at a college or university located in the U.S. with a major or minor in Communications.
- Student(s) must be in good standing with up to at least one semester remaining upon completion of project.
- Students may work in pairs or teams of up to 10 students, per entry.
- Student(s) interested must submit an entry form with a proposal describing the service project and execution plan, a copy of their transcripts and a letter of support from a faculty member at the student's school and a representative from the 501(c)3 charity being served. If there is more than one student per entry, please state in your proposal (and confirm by the faculty advisor) names of all teammates and how the scholarship award will be divided up amongst the students, in the event that the pair, group or team wins.
- Proposal entries must be received by November 15, 2010, to be considered for competition. NABEF will not be responsible for any lost, delayed, damaged, or corrupted submission.
- The competition will launch on January 17, 2011 and end March 31, 2011. Those selected are required to update their progress regularly on the Call to Service website throughout that time. Website updates will be a key judging tool.
- Judging will be based on creativity, community involvement and use of technology and journalism to complete the project.
- Scholarship prizes will be made payable directly to the university, college or community/technical college where the student is enrolled and will be applied to the student(s) account. If the scholarship money is to be shared by two or more students (i.e., a student team who maintained significant control over the creation and production of the project), it is the responsibility of the faculty sponsor to submit to NABEF the names and amounts to be paid to the individual student winners. Winning students not continuing their education at a university, college or community/technical college will not receive the scholarship prize.
- Entrants acknowledge that all submissions become the property of the NABEF who acquires all rights, including copyright to the entry, and that entries will not be returned. Entrant names and/or email addresses submitted for entry may be used by NABEF. Entrant may be required to execute additional documents confirming creation of the entry before being awarded an award. Entrants hereby waive any so-called "moral rights" claims they may have to their works. Entrants specifically acknowledge and agree that the NABEF will have the right, without restriction, to use, edit, reproduce, publish and distribute entries submitted without payment of any compensation or consideration to any entrant or any other person or entity (except the award given to the winner pursuant to these Official Guidelines and Eligibility). By entering or accepting any award, entrants represent that all submissions are the creation of the entrant, and do not violate or infringe any copyright, trademark, trade secret, rights of publicity or other proprietary right of any person or entity.
- All submissions will be reviewed and judged by a team of judges selected by members of NABEF. Judges will evaluate and score each entry in their sole discretion. NABEF reserves the right to disqualify any entrant whose eligibility is in question. If you have any questions about these rules or the competition, please contact Rumana Sultana.
