Initiatives and Programs
Diversity
National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) established the Education Foundation in 1994 in part to address the need to increase diversity at all levels in broadcasting. Since that time, a core mission of the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) has been to provide career advancement opportunities for people of color and women. To advance this goal, NABEF offers a full range of education and training programs, from entry level through ownership.
We sponsor a series of career advancement programs, from entry-level to ownership, for people of color and women. In addition the foundation partners with the American Advertising Federation to offer a series of Web based seminars that highlight the multicultural marketing opportunities.

Community Service
Broadcasters have long played a critical role in addressing the issues and social concerns of their local communities. Each year the value of public service that radio and television stations generate exceeds $10 billion.
NABEF advocates community service efforts of broadcasters and their communities. NABEF’s prestigious event, The Celebration of Service to America Awards, recognizes and encourages outstanding community service by broadcasters and their community partners.
NABEF is also an advocate for student community service efforts. The Call to Service program was created to award college students scholarships for working with local broadcasters to complete outstanding community service projects. This project also helps students gain a better understanding of broadcasters and their continuing efforts to serve local communities.
Broadcast Issues
NABEF supports and advocates various broadcasting trends and issues such as the First Amendment. Our Freedom of Speech PSA Contest reminds college communications students of the importance of free speech before they begin their careers.
