Connections Mentoring Initiatives

The Connections Mentoring Initiative is a premier leadership development and mentoring fellowship program. Created to prepare talented and diverse broadcasters for the next phase of their broadcasting careers, Connections links senior level broadcast mentors with women and people of color who are their companies' emerging leaders.

NABEF Fellowships

The Professional Fellowship program strives to promote diversity and increase the number of qualified candidates at the broadcast management level. The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation will award eight fellowships to people of color and women in broadcasting to attend the NAB Executive Development Seminar. They are awarded to individuals who have demonstrated ability to show promise for future advancement in the industry.

Broadcast Leadership Training

In 2010 the Broadcast Leadership Training (BLT) program will celebrate its tenth anniversary. In recognition, the focus will be on expanding and furthering training opportunities for the existing alumni as well as continuing education for new participants. Returning BLT alumni will be active participants in the program. The courses will be taught by the prestigious BLT faculty which includes broadcasters, FCC staff, leading communications attorneys, members of the Wall Street and banking community and academic faculty from leading universities.

NABEF Media Sales Institutes

The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) Media Sales Institute began in 2001 at Howard University. The program was created for the express purpose of increasing the number of women and people of color in media sales. The 10-day intensive program trains participants in broadcast, cable and Internet sales. At the end of the program graduates make presentations and interview with media recruiting companies looking to fill positions. Currently the NABEF sponsors Media Sales Institutes at Howard University, Florida A&M University (in partnership with the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters) and the University of North Texas.

Emma Bowen Scholarships

This unique, multi-year program prepares a diverse group of talented young professionals to enter the workforce with specific job-related skills, knowledge of the corporate environment and a strong foundation for future advancement. Currently, we have have more than 280 active students nationwide and an equal number of graduates. Approximately 80-90 new students join the program each year.
